Simple Resume Layout

A proper resume layout is one of the most important parts to any successful job hunt. If you’re tired of wasting time and money sending out irrelevant applications, here are some simple resume layout tips that will help you make your resume a success.

Size of the text on the cover of the resume matters most when it comes to the size of the font. Anything that exceeds 10 points in size can cause someone to stop reading it and immediately pick up on the fact that you’re spamming them with unnecessary information. The quality of the resume doesn’t have to be intimidating, but do need to be easy to read and comfortable for the reader.

Some examples of this could be titles and bullet points, but they also go hand in hand with using the general body of the resume. It is important that you not only list your qualifications, but how you got to those qualifications. It’s a better idea to include the section you studied for first, or something that helped you learn. Being able to explain how you got to where you are can really catch someone’s attention and interest in learning more about you.

Keep the one-sentence resume to five sentences at a minimum. The easier you make it for the reader to digest, the better. In a shorter form, you’ll be less likely to have to deal with unnecessary words and sections that make you look like a copywriter.

Make sure your cover letter is appropriate for the job you’re applying for. If you’re applying for a sales position, don’t write an entire letter about how much you love working with new people. Don’t get into long, drawn out rants about why you should get the job. You need to be brief and concise when you send this letter.

An effective cover letter can mean the difference between a solid interview and nothing at all. Having a few lines that completely focus on your personal skills is not required, but it can help convince your interviewer that you have the necessary skills and abilities to fill the role. So, don’t be afraid to go off the reservation a bit when it comes to your cover letter.

Just make sure that you use a minimal amount of words when writing your resume. This is a simple resume layout tip that will save you time and money and will get you the results you want.
